A visit to Uganda by the delegation of Tallinn from 08.-15.12. 2013

The foundation Tallinn Development and Training Centre (TDTC) organized a visit to Uganda by three representative of Tallinn from 08.-15.12.2013 during the course of a development project “Establishing tourist information centres in Uganda and building their capacities on the example of Tallinn”. The three-member TDTC led delegation of Tallinn took part in the II Ungandan Public Sector Innovation Conferencs with two presentations – Kalle Sepp „One Stop Tourism Information Centres“ and Ülle Purga „Estonian ICT – The case of Estonia“. During their stay, they also met with the representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, the Uganda Tourism Office, the Ministry of Public Services and the Civil Service College, the mayors and city official of the cities of Jinja, Entebbe, Kabale, Mukono, Kasese and also from other cities interested in future cooperation.

The Prime Minister of Uganda Amama Mbabazi pointed out in the opening speech of the conference the supporting and positive role of the foundation Tallinn Development and Training Centre and City Government of Tallinn as a partner and trainee to the local governments.

During the stay, the delegation members visited and evaluated the possible rooms for tourist information centres in Kampala and Jinja and agreed on an action plan and needs of training for the next visit of the developmental co-operation project’s program taking place in April 2014. Kalle Sepp, Ülle Purga and Varri Väli made presentations on the topics of Tallinn’s and Estonia’s progresses in tourism and on the importance of tourist information centres in the City Government of Jinja. The City of Jinja has already allocated funds from the 2014 budget to open a tourist information center in the rooms of Jinja City Government.

During the meeting with the representatives of the World Bank, the possibility of future co-operation (as of the original proposal with the City of Jinja) was discussed. A more specific discussion of the same matter will take place in April 2014.

The Uganda Ministry of Public Services and the Ministry of Tourism, as well as the local governments in Kampala, Jinja, Entebbes, Kasese and others cities are very interested in starting a follow-up project.

The Mayor of Entebbe presented a written proposal to leader of the Tallinn delegation Kalle Sepp for co-operation in development of the tourism sector and for establishing a toursit information center by the example of Tallinn to Entebbe. The two sides agreed on a longer visit to Entebbe during the next visit, which will take place in April 2014.

The members of Tallinn delegation gave several interviews to the local media.
